The Happy House

I had a dream that my husband and I were looking to buy a house and we found one we really liked. The only problem with this particular house was that the previous owner had written “happy” across the front of the house in thick white paint. In my dream, we discussed painting over it, and we questioned why anyone would do such a thing, especially before putting it on the market.

That was it. That was my dream.

When I woke up, it got me thinking.

The Better Way to Love

He lifted the plastic wrap from a plate that held a single piece of cake. The chocolate icing had melted underneath and it was pulling away as he lifted it. He responded by gently touching each side, one side at a time, peeling back the corners until the entire piece of cake was uncovered perfectly intact.

Where Love Begins

I remember the first couch my husband and I ever bought when we first got married. It was floral print, mauves and greens. It was our first attempt to create a home that was comfortable and uniquely ours. We were so proud of that couch and to have a space that we could call our own.

The Birds' Story

It seemed like a good day to have an outdoor lunch. I picked out two of the softest pieces of bread that I could find from the almost two-week-old loaf in the pantry. I should have been on my way to the grocery store in response to the sad state of my cupboards, but instead I made my way out to the front porch.

The Breath of God

My alarm clock went off with a loud buzz… I count the seconds before I react one…two…three. It shocks me every morning even though I should be used to it by now. I quickly reach across the right side of my body and push the snooze button and when I getmy bearings, I turn it completely off and climb out of bed.
